The Evolution of American Business Practices

This dissertation study is anticipated to make numerous contributions to both research and practice. In terms of theory, the dissertation makes a significant contribution by creating a theoretical framework for SC KM capability. Prior studies examining the correlation between KM and organizational performance have primarily concentrated on the KM capability of individual organizations (Gold et al. 2001; Tanriverdi 2005). In a supply chain where the supply chain partners are not all from the same organization, knowledge can play a crucial role in coordinating and ensuring the smooth functioning of the supply chain (Hansen 2002). Exploring how supply chain firms can tap into knowledge resources beyond their own boundaries will contribute to developing a theoretical understanding of how knowledge management impacts value creation in the supply chain.

The second contribution of the dissertation is to enhance our understanding of the connection between IT capability and supply chain performance in IS research.


The correlation between the utilization of information technology and the functioning of an organizationHere is the structure of the dissertation. Chapter 2 provides a comprehensive literature review that explores the various research streams that contribute to both studies. Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 discuss the empirical study and the simulation study, respectively. Each study provides a comprehensive description of its research background, research model, methodology, results, and future research. Chapter 5 provides a comprehensive overview of the findings from the two studies and presents a well-rounded conclusion to the dissertation. Performance has long been a topic of interest for researchers in the IT value research stream. Through an examination of the connection between IT capability of a supply chain and the supply chain's performance from a knowledge management perspective, this dissertation aims to provide fresh insights into the research on IT business value. The third theoretical contribution of the dissertation is that the computational simulation study will provide a solid basis for theory building in IT-enabled inter-organizational KM. According to Scott (2000), the utilization of IT for knowledge management in supply chain management is an area that is considered highly relevant but has not been extensively researched in the field of IS. By employing a simulation approach, the dissertation expands on previous research that focused on IT-enabled KM within a single organization (Kane and Alavi 2007) and applies it to inter-organizational contexts.

The findings of this dissertation will also be important and applicable to supply chain management professionals. 


In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, it is crucial for companies in a supply chain to collaborate and have a deep understanding of their customers, technologies, and business processes in order to thrive in a competitive environment. This research aims to assist companies in optimizing their supply chain strategies by leveraging the power of knowledge-based collaborations with their business partners. Additionally, by cultivating and utilizing knowledge resources, supply chains can better adapt to market demands. This dissertation aims to enhance practitioners' understanding of how knowledge management capabilities can be utilized to enhance supply chain performance, resulting in both operational and strategic advantages. Finally, the utilization of IT capabilities allows supply chain firms to establish knowledge management initiatives. Gaining insight into how IT provides support This paper aims to provide valuable insights into the factors that contribute to supply chain performance by exploring the field of knowledge management. In addition, this paper aims to assist practitioners in enhancing their supply chain performance by identifying the most suitable knowledge management capability for their supply chains. This paper will be of particular interest to audiences in the management science and operations management research community. Suitable publications for the second study would be journals like Management Science, the Journal of Operations Management, and the Journal of Supply Chain Management. Ultimately, the simulation study seeks to gain insight into how KM ITs impact a company's knowledge outcomes when they acquire knowledge from their supply chain partners. This paper will focus on IS journals, such as ISR and JMIS, or journals in organizational sciences that are open to the use of simulation as a research method. The third publication has a working title of "Bridging Gaps in Organizational Knowledge - The Role"

Plan for sharing information


The completed dissertation will lead to the publication of three articles in academic journals. The empirical research in this dissertation is divided into two studies, each forming an individual journal article. The initial empirical paper will center on showcasing the effects of supply chain IT capability on the supply chain's KM capability. The primary focus of this paper is to examine how supply chain IT impacts the knowledge management capability of the supply chain. The first paper is titled "An Empirical Investigation of Information Technology Impact on Supply Chain Knowledge Management Capability." The study focuses on examining theoretical constructs. Given their significance and importance to the IS research community, our aim is to focus on publishing our first article in renowned IS journals like MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, the Journal of Management Information Systems, and Decision Sciences. The second empirical paper will explore the correlation between the supply chain's knowledge management capability and its overall performance. This paper will explore research questions related to the management of knowledge within supply chain firms as an inter-organizational resource."And what kind of impact does the knowledge management capability of a supply chain have on the supply chain's performance?"The second paper is titled "Understanding Supply Chain Knowledge Management Capabilities and their Impact on Supply Chain Performance."
